Portraits

In all portrait sessions, my primary goal is to capture the personality of the person/people that I'm photographing. I find that on-location photojournalistic sessions are the perfect way to accomplish this. Family/individual sessions include up to an hour of session time, and senior sessions include up to two hours. All packages include as many poses and outfits as time allows.

Questions and Answers:

How do I schedule my portrait session?
Just take a look at my calendar, and send me a note! We'll get in touch to schedule a time that will work for both of us. Generally portrait sessions are scheduled either in the early morning or late afternoon - that's when the best light happens. All you need to reserve your session time is a portrait contract (which I'll send to you via mail or email) and the $50 session fee, which is applied to all portrait packages.

When will I receive my proofs/prints?
A book of 4x6 proofs will be mailed to you 2-3 weeks following your portrait session, along with a print order form. Prints are generally ready approximately 3-4 weeks after I receive your order form. If you will need prints for a special occasion, it's best schedule your portrait session at least two to three months before the occasion date.

Should I bring anything with me?
If you'd like to use any specific "props", such as a favorite toy, band instrument, sports equipment or even your car, feel free to bring them along! Snacks, drinks and toys are great to have on hand for children's sessions.

What should I wear?
Most importantly, be sure to wear something that you feel great in! If you're uncomfortable, it will most likely show in your portraits. Solid colors are a great choice anytime; stripes and large prints are often less-than-flattering in photographs. Members of group portraits should take care not to clash with each other, but you also don't have to match exactly. Having a couple of different outfits can be a great way to add some variety to your portraits.

Where should we do the session at?
I recommend any place that has special meaning to you, or that you enjoy spending time at. If you have trouble deciding on a location, I'm happy to provide suggestions. We can even use a couple different locations, provided that travel between them fits into your scheduled session time.

What should we plan for in case of bad weather?
Like most other electronics, camera gear doesn't handle wet weather all that well. In case of rainy weather, we may be forced to reschedule. However, the weather here in Kentucky can change in just a few minutes, so if your session is later in the day, it's best to wait until a couple hours before and see if things clear up. If it isn't actually raining, cloudy skies can make for very cool backgrounds and light.
